The Cut The Movie

The Idea

Killah is seen with his cutlas around the savannah, sharpening his cutlas. It seems as though he is eager to see someone. Not too far away is Carmen now on her early morning run. It is presumed that at some point Carmen would meet up with a malicious Killah would seemingly has bad intentions. When they finally meet, Killah sees Carmen, raises his cutlas and slashes the head off of a coconut which is then revealed in Killah's hand. Killah gives Carmen the coconut and she continues he morning.

This was the initial stages of the production and we were at our final stages of scripting. Based on the last script assignment we were well able to use the Celtx program to customize our script, but this was the producer's responsibility. She kept us in the loop the whole time and I enjoyed watching how our script transformed while adding in the bits and pieces to make it believable.

This reminded me of an exercise we did in class when our lecturer sent the producers a copy of a script for our actors in the group to practice in live form. I am certain you would hear all about her contributions to acting. I had a little problem working with my group members initially. For a small group, imagine how it would look if everyone showed up late. I was always left to stare at miss, while waiting on my team members to arrive and contribute to an in class assignment, that would help us improve our skills. This scripting to act assignment required an actor to participate. We had our actor there on time, but because she did not retrieve the script, we had to liaise with the producer who was not there.

I would admit, for a group that had so much problems with time, we managed to pull off a successful script. We struggled to meet deadlines, but I always tried my best to be proactive and completed all my tasks ahead of time. So before I keep going on, this is our script in its completed format, although there were a few changes on the actually day of production. That would be discussed in the analysis of the cut movie on a whole.

EXT./SAVANNAH ROADSIDE EAST/DAY
KILLAH looks slowly around, glances at his watch and a
mysterious smile creeps onto his face.
EXT./SAVANNAH ROADSIDE NORTH/DAY
CARMEN drives into a parking spot next to the running track
of the Savannah nowhere near Killah. She is singing and
nodding her head to the beat of the music playing in her
car.
EXT./SAVANNAH ROADSIDE EAST/DAY
Killah begins to sharpen his cutlass and whistle.
EXT./SAVANNAH ROADSIDE NORTH/DAY
A VAGRANT is seated on the curb next to the spot where
Carmen wants to park. She angles the car to drive into the
space but he does not move. She honks her horn repeatedly.
He looks up, annoyed, sucks his teeth and slowly gets up and
moves out of the way. He mutters to himself and begins to
walk in Killah’s direction. Carmen ensures she is parked
properly and switches of the engine. She opens the door and
exits the car. She picks up a water bottle and her MP3
player but leaves her phone. She puts the MP3 earplugs in
her ear, selects a track and turns on the music and begins
to stretch.
EXT./SAVANNAH ROADSIDE EAST/DAY
Killah continues to sharpen his cutlass with the same smile
on his lips and whistling the same tune. He ignores everyone
passing by who do not pay attention to what he is doing.
EXT./SAVANNAH ROADSIDE NORTH/DAY
Carmen begins to run around the Savannah, in Killah’s
direction. She is oblivious to everything going on around
her as she slips more and more into her zone.
2.
EXT./SAVANNAH ROADSIDE EAST/DAY
Killah stops sharpening his cutlass, tests to see if it is
sharp enough but it is not. He frowns and stops whistling
then goes back sharpening the cutlass. His smile returns and
begins to whistle again.
EXT./SAVANNAH ROADSIDE NORTH/DAY
Carmen continues to run and ignores the stares of male
passersby. She is unable to hear their calls and remarks.
EXT./SAVANNAH ROADSIDE EAST/DAY
Killah looks up from sharpening his cutlass to see Carmen
coming towards him in the distance. His smile turns to a
grin. He stops whistling. He checks again to see if the
cutlass is sharp enough. He is satisfied with its sharpness.
He twirls the cutlass around and watches Carmen as she comes
closer to where he stands waiting on her.
EXT./SAVANNAH ROADSIDE NORTHEAST/DAY
Carmen, running, smiles peacefully.
EXT./SAVANNAH ROADSIDE EAST/DAY
Killah looks intently at Carmen timing her arrival and
raises the cutlass in the air. Carmen does not see the
danger ahead and continues to run. Carmen enters Killah’s
space from his left. He slashes his cutlass with his right
hand in Carmen’s direction while smiling. Carmen sees the
danger and her eyes open wide in shock. She tries to avoid
it but she does not. Killah chops off the head of a coconut.
Carmen raises her hand to avoid being hit in the face by a
bottle thrown by the vagrant who is rummaging through a bin
located close to Killah’s fruit spot. She looks at the
vagrant and sucks her teeth. Killah drops the cutlass and
reaches out to her with his right hand while holding the
coconut with his left. She faces Killah as she smiles and
shakes her head and reaches out for the coconut. The vagrant
continues to rummage in the bin
